What a wonderful tidbit about George Washington, and what gorgeous scenery. Also, to the musicians: for shame! You've been getting me to fall in love with NJ just a little but we both know it never woulda gone down like this in Louisiana.
I made the stuff up about GW obvs. But he had a grisly set of teeth yanked from living people, so he can take the ribbing. New Jersey has a lot to love in a little place. But it is little... that's why I like the Pines, I guess? Because it's big. Every other place here that I've hiked, if I got lost, it was a matter of "walk this direction and eventually there'll be houses or a highway." In the Pines, that's technically true, but not in an hour or two...
Oh that’s right! I knew there was something weird about GW & teeth & when you said comb I was like, sure, why not, makes sense. But what makes even more (and more depressing) sense is that he had four sets of dentures acquired from slaves and poor people; apparently you can see one on display at Mt. Vernon. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Washington%27s_teeth
How great! The stands of Atlantic white cedar are very small and widely separated up in New England, at the upper limit of their range. No groves like that.
Apparently there are huge stands in the Carolinas, away from the sea. Just as there are Pine Barrens in other states... I'm learning this. There are some old growth cedars in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. I nearly made a detour, as I stopped to see two old trees the last time I drove to New England. Next time...

I love these episodes!
Thank you, Chris!
My dyslexic memory instantly turned this into Highberry Bluebush, who was probably a pirate...
Love this adventure, and all your pluckery posts!!!!
That's even better, Bluebush the Pirate... I'm not going there. Not not not.
