This is great. I love knowing people I like but have never met are having fun together doing interesting things.

My paths cross frequently with AmeriCorps volunteers and it seems an excellent program. Good on ya!

I WILL get my ass to Montana and either join one of your camping events or just grab a burger with you or something, depending on how life works out. I’ve never been to Montana. I have a field guide to it that some guy I know contributed to… once I read that I’ll find when to visit

It used to be I could say exactly when is the best time to be here but that has become wildly unpredictable. We had a nice summer last year, if hot for a stretch ... but every year we could just as easily spend most of it under a pall of forest fire smoke. Regardless of when you make it happen, WE will make SOMETHING happen.

Oh my goodness, this is such an amazing post! I love your food writing & had no idea you volunteered with AmeriCorps after superstorm Sandy, so cool. Also your post explains who we are & what we’re doing & why we’re doing those things. Thank god! I ended up writing about why I wanted to live with a hawk in a box. (I’ve written my post but just need to get my photos together.) Point being -- yes, we notice different things, and that’s what makes these rambles with you so much fun! Here’s to more in the future -- fingers crossed on those wolves. 🐺🤞

I can't wait to read it! I've got H is for Hawk on my shelf too. I'll move it up the list.

It’s hard for me to be objective about H is for Hawk because of the personal circumstances under which I read it, but for me it’s a blow-away book about ... everything. Life, death, nature, wanting to be alive, sometimes wanting not to be alive, sometimes wanting to be a hawk, our terrible natures, nature’s terrible nature, also somehow colonialism and repression and T. H. White. Let me know what you think.
