Ooof, you're awakening in me an urge to re-watch those movies. What's not to like about fable & great story telling? Speaking of which, I'm so glad you're editing and publishing your book! That makes 2024 great already.

Also, please do swing by DC on both the Blue Ridge & cross-country trips if you can, and I'd love to chat about Joshua Tree & the Mojave desert with which I am now in love.

Thanks! I think you read Fox Child Running, so you'll have some familiarity with the book. And I'll try to make a DC stop!

Great edition mate! Loved the films growing up, and are always reminded that I can't now remember the characters in my mind's eye from when I originally read the books, they've been replaced by the film's versions. Sat down with my eldest to watch these and the hobbit trilogy recently, he loved them too.

Hope you'll be posting about the road trip, sounds amazing.

I think I'm going to reread the books soon, and I'll let you know if I can see the characters differently. The films are 20 years old now—Sarah told me that Sean Austin's daughter, who plays Sam and Rosie's child, just graduated college—but I saw them in my early thirties. The performances were pretty iconic, so it will not be easy for my imagination to forget them.

I just finished rewatching LOTR last week. I can’t ever get enough of those, and might never be able to see the corniness of them. The Battle of Helm’s Deep and the Horn of Rohan blowing at the walls of Gondor do too good a job of reminding me how deeply I’ve loved those stories. 💓⚔️💍

I am considering a re-read of the books. But I can watch the movies anytime!

One Christmas my parents got me a coffee table book of the illustrations from that special. I wish I still had it!

I loved the books and LOTR movies, but have zero desire to watch the greedy, cynical big screen adaptation of "The Hobbit"

There's an "internet cut" floating around that removes everything not in the book, but even that was forgettable. Once you make The Hobbit a prequel to the Ring story, it loses all its charm. It stood alone very well, and also as a whimsical adventure that leads to a great war. Trying to make it as epic as the Ring stories misses the point entirely.
