Just wanted to say that the “before” picture of the path looks terrifying and tbh the “after” picture doesn’t look much better (to me). Glad you’re healing/healed.
Glad you are getting out there and feeling recovered. Pine Warblers are always great to see and hear. Nice picture of that Tiger Bee Fly. When it's right, Seek makes things easy -- worst case it makes for a nice starting point to delve into guidebooks and Google. I hope to read some bird stories from your early morning Cape May birding ventures!
Thanks. We visited the zoo today, I'm going to bike ride early in the morning and bring binoculars and a camera. I'll let you know what I see at Sunset beach and the Birding platform!
One of the things I really appreciate about these Sunday adventures is how you mix the rusting or abandoned human-made world with the natural (messy words, but you probably know what I mean). There’s something so *humane* and grounded about it that I enjoy.
Your “read a bit a day” list! Wow. Talk about keeping a mind active!
I recently rewatched Smoke Signals and felt like I’d never truly watched it before, even though I have. And Nimona is great. My younger kid got me to watch it with them. Might become one of my go-to cathartic movies.
Nimona really explores who we consider a villain, and explains how "people are complicated" in a way that kids will get, but isn't cloying for adults. I loved it. I saw Smoke Signals in the theater ages ago, but not since. I ought to watch it again. That was a great era for movies, before all the indie studios were gobbled up by the big ones and became independent in name only.

I can sneeze without flinching now, so it's time to crash again...
Have you tried iNaturalist?
I think Seek is the identification app of iNaturalist, which is the journal app?
On my phone, the app just says “iNaturalist.”

Smoke Signals holds up in a way that blows past “holds up.” Honesty and truth that will always be timeless, maybe.
And yes that about Nimona! That’s exactly it. Great characters and few simple answers. AND the reality of class as a progressive barrier.
And thanks for the compliment, I like just "tawkin here" as I'd say what this is... I'll watch Smoke Signals again.
