Ugh, Tom, this one caught me right in the feels. I’m sorry you’ve been struggling with a dreary-rotten mood, but I love & admire how you stay present with the birds or good food or friends or a beautiful sunset, and notice how those things change your mood even temporarily.

BTW very curious what you’ll think about The Dispossessed -- I really loved it & meant to write about it, but then forgot to.

Thanks Hannah. It felt like whining a bit, because I have a very good life. But I think we are all affected by the seasons and stress and fear for the future, and we can't give up.

It didn't come across as whining at all, and yes, we're all allowed to have down days and to not feel great all the time. In fact, I think it's really important to talk about that and to talk about nature helping kinda-sorta but only temporarily but also being a little bit of a drag to get out to on those days, etc. All those things are great things to talk about, I think, and so real and also part of the eventual joy as well I think. Thanks for writing about these things.

"Some days there aren’t enough guillotines."

Truth.

And turkey vultures really do soar well.
