There's a place on state forest land I like to hike regularly, and once last summer some guy was on the trail and made a point to tell me there were some "homeless losers" camping up the draw a little. He had those stupid "tactical" pants on and a pistol and looked like he hadn't touched so much as a dumbbell in forever – which is judgmental as hell but if you're going to act tough it helps not to exude soft – and I had this surge of wanting to take his gun off him and give him a swirly in the culvert, but instead I just shrugged and said if they didn't bother me, I wasn't going to bother them, and maybe they were just camping campers anyway.
Yeah, too many gun nuts think the gun is a talisman that protects them. Originally concealed carry was touted as a tide that would lift all safety because criminals wouldn't know who was armed. Now they want open carry, untrained carry, and untrained ownership, and we have families slaughtered by neighbors and kids killed for ringing doorbells. Give the girl scouts flamethrowers, the snacktical mall ninjas might answer the door.
Anytime I see comments like that in running groups or neighborhood groups or whatever, I make sure I point out that my pasty white ass sees no reason to "report" it or carry around an AR-15, or whatever Karen types think will make them feel safe. The reason I do is because over and over, the people who are most threatening to me are not unhoused people but entitled frat bros and the people most threatening to the unhoused are Karens.
Yeah no one wants to hear that. It doesn't fit the narrative. A friend of mine was raped while running. A marine. By an older white man. Thankfully he's dead now, because he didn't serve much time. Like the white guy they found with 7 dead teens on his land. All prison taught him was to kill his victims.
I just love you so much. 🥰 Love that you muted that thread. You are absolutely correct about how social media affects us in not so nice ways... Also, no one has ever been mean to me here. And if anyone is mean to me anywhere else, I know I can call on my big bro to handle them😜 But these days, I am more upset when/if someone is mean to my kids... I really don't care what people say/think about me anymore. It's a beautiful side effect of growing old. 😁
While I admire your 'enough' philosophy, I very doubt that I'm the only one who hopes to see more books. I would be sad to have seen the last of Jay D.
Thanks for sharing your funny and inclusive world view. Hell you even make me smile about trolls. Travel well my friend.
I will, I wish my Viking brother was here…
It made me happy/content to hang out at your post... that's the kind of writing I like. Thanks for doing it/being it. ENOUGH.
Thank you, Satya!

Yeah you're old... Much older than me. If anyone hurts those kids, to quote Walter Sobchek, they've entered a world of pain.

Thanks, Jonathan. We shall see...
