Hey Thomas, thx for the alert to 'Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs.' I've recently stumbled on Marty Robbins's excellent version of 'Ghost Riders in the Sky' so I'm primed for more of his stuff.
So I bought Alyssa a Polaroid that prints the mini pictures. I like it. As long as you don't go nuts. Or else you'll have a ton of those pictures in storage. Lol ,... or all over your house, like I do. 😁
I’m so excited that you read Desert Oracle & liked it! And are thinking about reading Abbey, who I also love, although I also think, yeah, he’s an able-bodied white dude who more or less abandoned his wife & kids to go do what he did & his views pretty much reflect that.
Like, the idea of having “pure” wilderness parks without roads is great & all and I can see why *he* thought National Parks should only be for people who can wilderness hike at least 12 miles, but what about elderly people? Disabled people? Children? People who haven’t abandoned their wives & children & can’t take a month to explore a canyon?
Anyway, I’ll leave it till you read him.
And thanks so much for the music -- I meant to listen to the music described in Desert Oracle then forgot all about it, this is a great reminder.
Yeah I think that bullshit will chafe. I don't expect a handicap ramp up every mountain but I probably can't hike 12 miles right now. The most I've hiked is 10, years ago. A lifetime of back pain due to a childhood injury. I'm awake right now because of it.
1)How was the Kansas City 'cue? I've never been there, but I went in St. Louis, and was very disappointed by the smoked meat scene in that city. I suspect KC is cooler in every way!
2) That Marty Robbins album is fantastic. There's a Mexican banda group that plays every month a Barbés in Park Slope. They do a great brassy arrangement of "El Paso".
I'm no expert but I like KC cue. I've had good NC SC MO... no Texas yet. St Louis didn't impress me as much as KC did, but it was a long time in between.
I like the Texas Tornados, but any recommendations are welcome. Bob Wills and the Merle Haggard tribute album to him are on spin.
I just ordered a medium Marlin 5 in Voodoo Green after a test ride. I should have it by Sunday. The Fuji has a cracked frame again, same area. Whether they replace the frame under warranty or not, I will be getting a Trek Farley frame (carbon maybe) and swapping the parts over eventually. I don't trust that frame anymore. Hopefully I can sell the replaced frame to recoup my expenses. The Marlin will be fun to ride, it's so much faster than a fat bike.
Thanks, Kent. My shop is building a medium frame Marlin for me to test ride. We have pavement trails that I think I'd appreciate better on a bike like that. And I'll let you know when I read some Abbey.

This is a fun record, it's no wonder it was huge during its time. Enjoy!

I was mostly going to get it for photos of the kids, so now I don't need one 😂

It’s hard for me to like this, but I agree with you & I’m so sorry about the back pain!
Oh and I do love my funky little Instax camera! 😁
What model is yours?
It’s the FUJIFILM INSTAX MINI EVO Hybrid Instant Camera.

As an ex-Trek-shop-guy I've got nothing but good things to say about the Marlin. It's a nice bike for the money & not overly complex.
And hell yeah on Desert Solitaire & Ed Abbey in general. He's a good hearted cranky bastard. His novels, especially THE MONKEY WRENCH GANG, are fun.
