I am currently off grid, and this is a scheduled post.
For my birthday, I enrolled in Tom Brown Jr.’s Tracker School, something I’ve wanted to do for years. I will be learning outdoor survival skills and tracking.
When I get back, we can talk about it. For now I’ll leave you with my favorite scene from the TV series What We Do in the Shadows:
Oh, and…
The most interesting and enjoyable podcast I’ve listened to recently was “The Butterfly Effect” by Jon Ronson. In this one, he begins with a young tech bro named Fabian, who created PornHub, to give away (other people’s) free porn. Like YouTube before they had automated takedowns of copyrighted content, he allows people to share stolen goods and no one cares because it’s porn. The changes this has had to the world are unbelievable, and fascinating.
Montreal is the porn capital of the world, by the way. Made in California, fenced in Quebec.
Some more good reading. This one by Zev Good reminded me of the less pleasant parts of childhood in the “seen not heard” era. I only got this from one side of the family, where I sat at the “children’s table” until I could buy liquor, I think. I remember sitting at a card table so low that I couldn’t get my knees under it. On my mother’s side, the side I call my “real family,” we all sat together.
Can't wait to hear about the school.... 🐾
LOVE what we do in the shadows!! And tracking sounds so cool.
